About InDownloader
An independent web tool for saving Instagram media you own or have permission to use. Here is what it does, how it works, and where its limits are.
InDownloader helps people save media from Instagram links without installing an app or creating an InDownloader account. The service is designed for content that is publicly accessible and that you are legally allowed to download. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc.
Who maintains InDownloader
InDownloader is the service name used on this website. The project currently publishes under that name rather than individual author profiles or a separate legal-entity name. We therefore do not ask visitors to rely on unsupported claims about team credentials, awards, years of experience, or legal review.
For accountability, product questions, corrections, privacy requests, and rights concerns can be sent through our contact page or directly to hello@indownloader.dev.
What the service does
The main downloader resolves supported Instagram links and presents the media renditions Instagram makes available for that item. Depending on current service support, this can include public Reels, videos, photos, carousels, profile pictures, Stories, or Highlights. Some content types may be unavailable when Instagram requires access that the service is not configured to use.
For ordinary photo and video downloads, the selected file is streamed to your browser without adding a watermark or intentionally re-encoding the media. The quality and formats offered depend on what Instagram provides. The separate audio tool fetches a selected video through the same download service, then extracts or converts its audio in your browser.
How a request works
- You submit an Instagram link. Your browser sends the link to the InDownloader API.
- The API validates and resolves it. It accepts only supported Instagram addresses, requests the related page or metadata, and identifies available media. Successful resolution metadata may be cached for about 10 minutes to reduce repeated requests.
- You choose a file. The public response uses opaque file identifiers instead of exposing the downloadable file's signed CDN address. Some preview images may still load directly from a Meta media domain.
- The file is streamed. A download request goes back through the API, which retrieves the selected media from Meta's CDN and passes the bytes to your browser. Download responses are configured not to be stored in the service's cache.
You are never asked to provide an Instagram password, session cookie, or account login. Some optional features, such as public Story or Highlight resolution, may use an operator-managed Instagram session when one is configured. That session is not supplied by visitors and is not intended to provide access to private, close-friends, or otherwise restricted content.
Privacy and security approach
InDownloader has no user accounts and does not use submitted links to build user profiles or sell them for advertising. It does store a light or dark theme choice in your browser. Any advertising or analytics provider used on the site, and what it receives, is described in our Privacy Policy, which is the one place that information is maintained.
This is not a claim that no technical data is ever processed. Our infrastructure and network provider receives information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect API requests, the service may use short-lived abuse controls, resolved metadata is cached briefly, and operational errors may appear in diagnostic logs. Our Privacy Policy explains these details, third-party processing, and retention more fully.
What InDownloader cannot promise
- No access to restricted content. The service is not intended to bypass private accounts, close-friends audiences, direct messages, paywalls, age or region restrictions, or removed content.
- No guarantee that every link will work. Instagram can change its pages, APIs, access rules, and expiring media links without notice.
- No guarantee of a particular resolution. We can only offer the versions available to the service at the time of the request.
- No ownership transfer. Downloading a file does not give you copyright, publicity, privacy, or republication rights.
A public post is not automatically free to reuse. Permission and creator rights still matter.
InDownloader responsible-use principle
How site content is maintained
Product and policy pages are revised when service behavior or data handling changes. Service-specific technical claims should be checked against the current frontend, API configuration, and observable behavior; claims about third-party platforms should be based on direct testing or official sources. Dates on policy pages show when their published text was last materially updated.
Automated tools, including AI-assisted editing, may help draft, organize, or review site content. They are not treated as evidence of experience or expertise. The maintainer remains responsible for what is published and for correcting inaccurate or outdated statements.
Responsible use
Only download content you created, own, are authorized to use, or may otherwise lawfully save. Respect creators, obtain permission before republishing, and follow applicable law and platform rules. The Terms of Service explain the acceptable-use rules in more detail.
Questions and corrections
If a page is inaccurate, a feature does not behave as described, or you have a privacy or rights concern, please use the contact page or email hello@indownloader.dev. Include enough detail for us to understand the issue, but do not send passwords, session cookies, or other account credentials.
